Introduces a special journal issue, "Out of Asia: Skilling Re-Skilling and De-Skilling of Female Migrants." Contributions focus on East-West migration of skilled female labor & look to expand the manner in which female labor migration is viewed & challenge dominant perceptions of Asian migrant women as only care & sex workers; the 'double presence' of women as manifest in their public & private sphere contributions is addressed. Highlighted are the multiple routes through which skilled female workers migrate & the role played by immigration policy, the labor market, & households in driving the postmigration career & personal trajectories of these women. Here, reasons why skilled labor migration must be reconceptualized to include women are articulated before summarizing the essays. 32 References. J. Zendejas
