Texte complet

Norfolk County, Ontario – September 7, 2013 – UFCW Canada and the Agricultural Workers Alliance (AWA) recently participated in the 2013 Seasonal Agricultural Worker Health Fair in the farming community of Norfolk County, Ontario.
Over 270 migrant farm workers attended the event to access health and service agency information and services and to enjoy an afternoon of food and refreshments at the Simcoe Royal Canadian Legion.
The Health Fair strives to increase health and wellness among seasonal agricultural workers by providing attendees with free health services, information, and resources, while helping participating organizations gain awareness of the health-related challenges and priorities of migrant farm workers.
UFCW Canada and the AWA both sponsored and displayed at the event, which featured information booths from fifteen other non-profit organizations as well as an occupational health clinic that provided free services to seasonal agricultural workers.
"Every year migrant farm workers encounter a number of serious physical and mental health issues while working in Canada, so events like the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Health Fair are crucial to helping migrant farm workers protect their health," says UFCW Canada National President Wayne Hanley. "UFCW Canada and the AWA were extremely proud to participate in this year's event and we look forward to attending many more Health Fairs in the future."
