" This essay is about the men and women like Archie Larson who worked in the tobacco
harvests of Southwestern Ontario in the 1960s and 70s.5
It is an attempt to contribute to the
historicization of farm labour in Canada, a project that has become of great importance given the
wealth of media, activist, and academic attention that has been paid in recent years to temporary
foreign farm labour, especially that of the Seasonal Agricultural Workers Program (SAWP)." p.3
