Immigrant women have been coming to Canada as Caregivers since the mid-19th century. Throughout this period, our access to permanent residency has been gradually declining. Still, Caregivers and the broader society have known the value of caregivers, and have ensured that some pathway to permanent residency was open. That path has not been enough, particularly when applications remain in limbo for years. It’s time to turn the tide. It’s time to show that caring is critical.
