About Us
RIAC is a not-for-profit, non-sectarian, charitable organization established to answer an ongoing need to support refugees, immigrants, and other Canadians of diverse origins in making Newfoundland and Labrador their home, and to raise awareness of refugee and immigrant issues.
Our Primary objective is to help refugees and immigrants become productive members of our society. We encourage:
RESPONSIBILITY: We encourage our members to be responsible and take the initiative to become self- reliant.
INDEPENDENCE: With the help of RIAC, community organizations, ethnic associations, and other service providers, Refugees and Immigrants can become fully independent members of society.
ACCEPTANCE: We encourage acceptance to our newcomers in the hope that they will incorporate both the Canadian culture as well as their own culture into their lives - this is what makes Canada such a diverse culture.
CHOICE: Refugees and Immigrants are free to make the choices they feel will enrich and better their lives. RIAC provides the information but they decide what services they will take advantage of.
