Employed in some of the most difficult and dangerous jobs in Canada, migrant agricultural workers are regularly exposed to risks and rights violations, yet they face multiple barriers, both structural and practical, to accessing protections and benefits. Kerry Preibisch made pivotal contributions to our understanding of health and safety issues facing migrants, based on her cutting-edge research in British Columbia and Ontario. In this presentation we will highlight some of Kerry’s key contributions to these areas, analyzing the health risks and issues facing migrant workers. We will then offer some recommendations for changes to protect migrant health moving forward, including sharing our joint recommendations to Ontario’s Changing Workplaces Review, which Kerry contributed to during the final months of her life.
