Registration will soon open for the second and third intensive 5-day anti-human trafficking training sessions hosted by the Alliance Against Modern Slavery in partnership with the United States Embassy and the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Our second session will take place November 4-8, 2013 in Thunder Bay, and our third session will take place December 2-6 in Windsor. We are honoured to welcome back internationally and nationally recognized trainers, Jane Runner and Jennifer Richardson.
Approximately 90% of the Sexual Exploitation / Human Trafficking Curriculum entitled Understanding and Working with Children and Youth who have been Sexually Exploited was written by trafficked survivors from Manitoba. The module we are using, now with a focus on Ontario and particular city and region contexts within the province of Ontario, was written based on Adult Learning Theory and Principles. Large portions of the curriculum include examples and stories that are used to link the content to people’s practices. Over 75% of the content has exercises for the participants to complete (both group and individual) so that they may verify the new information or skills learned. Return demonstrations are used in order to ensure understanding of the content, and are most often done in a group modality in order to allow time for the group reports.
The curriculum was written with law enforcement, front line service providers, child welfare workers and social workers in mind.
The training has been very well received across Canada and the United States. Comments and the benefits listed on evaluations include:
“I think this training was so excellent due to the fact that it was taught by the experts, the people that work with this every day. It made it more real; Beyond expectations; Willing to go the extra mile in building supports”
